Iran launched a missile and drone attack against Israel late Saturday. “The regime in Iran sent a massive swarm of over 200 killer drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles,” Israeli Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a statement.
The US, UK, and Jordanian military have shot down Iranian drones. US President Joe Biden has pledged “ironclad” backing for Israel against Iranian aggression.
“I just met with my national security team for an update on Iran’s attacks against Israel. Our commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad,” Joe Biden said on X (formerly Twitter).
Tensions had been building between Iran and Israel during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Iran has engaged in proxy warfare by providing backing to Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, who have repeatedly conducted attacks on Israel.
Iran has launched a frontal response after alleging that Israel just assassinated its diplomats in the Damascus embassy. On April 1, an attack killed many people, including a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ overseas Quds Force, as they were attending a conference in the Damascus embassy grounds.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, had sworn vengeance after Israel allegedly assassinated an Iranian official. Khamenei has previously stated that Israel “must be punished and shall be” for an action he described as equivalent to an attack on Iranian soil.
Israel did not acknowledge or deny its role in the attack.
Iran today stated the strike was retaliation for “Israeli crimes.”
“Should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe,” the Iranian envoy to the United Nations stated, warning the US to “stay away”. It stated that the matter should be declared resolved.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council conducted an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attacks on Israel.
Several countries have criticized Iran’s attack against Israel. Countries such as The US, UK, and France have committed support for Israel’s security.
US President Joe Biden condemned Iran’s attacks and said, “I condemn Iran’s attacks in the strongest possible terms and reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel.”
