Daria Dugina, the daughter of Putin’s ally was killed in a car blast outside Moscow on Sunday. The 29-year-old was in an SUV when the blast occurred. As per Russian media reports, the SUV belonged to her father. At the last minute, he decided to go in another car. The father-daughter duo was on their way back from a cultural festival. In an Associated Press report, Denis Pushilin blamed the attack on “terrorists of the Ukrainian regime, trying to kill Alexander Dugin”. Pushilin is the president of the separatist People’s Republic. The group is the focus of Russia’s fight in Ukraine. Dugin was previously targeted by US sanctions for having links with militants in eastern Ukraine.

Alexander Dugin is an analyst, influential; writer, and political philosopher. The sixty-year-old is famous for his intellectual influence on President Vladimir Putin. The Moscow-born is also the author of over 30 books. Hence, is referred to as “Putin’s brain” or “Putin’s philosopher”. While some Russian watchers call it minimal, others support his idea. As per reports by The Washington Post, in the 1990s Dugin rose to national prominence while writing for The Den, a far-right newspaper. Additionally, he was a former chief editor at Tsargrad TV. The network is well known for backing the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin.
Russia’s current political ideology is dominated by Dugin’s views. Known for his anti-West views and ultra-nationalist opinion, his vision pushes for an aggressive and powerful Russia. He is also an advocate for the unification of Russian-speaking nations. “A 1991 manifesto serialized in Den, ‘The Great War of the Continents’, laid out his vision of Russia as an ‘eternal Rome’ facing off against an individualistic, materialistic West,” noted a Washington Post article.
