As per officials, the delay in the final results from the midterm elections is due to several factors. One of them is because Georgia. a vital Senate area is in a run-off election. The result of this poll will determine who will control the chamber. Additionally, various states have their own rules for main-in ballots.

As the wait for final numbers is on, data reveals over 112.34 million Americans have cast their votes. About 42 million Americans chose to cast their ballots through the mail and this may be a reason for the delay. After all, the dates to send in the ballots are different in each state. Additionally, the senate contest in Arizona and Nevada are undecided as several uncounted ballots are remaining. In Nevada, authorities expect the process to stretch for a minimum of nine days.

In terms of counting votes, Pennsylvania started processing ballots on election day. Several other states followed Penn state. On the other hand, Maryland could start processing them at 10:00 local time on the next day due to state rules. Washington and 16 other states can only start the process after the polls close. Hence, counting begins on the same day in 23 states.

As per Joe P. Gloria, the Clark County Registrar of Voters, main-in ballots is counted if received before Saturday. However, the process of “curing” them is unclear as verification may push into the next week. Additionally, Arizona’s most populous county may take at least until Friday to tally. Adding to the issue is the result of the race for governor and US Senate. The polls are unclear even after 70 percent of votes are processed as of Wednesday.
