US President Joe Biden’s approval rating saw a jump from its summer low, with 45% of Americans approving of his job performance. Suggested in the latest AP-NORC Center for Public Research poll released Thursday, Axios reported. The ratings were based on a survey of 1,054 people done this month.
Joe Biden’s approval ratings in August increased by six percentage points from July when it had fallen to a low of 38% in Gallup’s survey. But even after a string of successes in Congress and abroad that have stoked enthusiasm in the White House and among Democratic voters, 53% of Americans still disapprove of Biden’s performance as commander-in-chief.
The increase indicates that the Democrats are gaining ground ahead of the midterm elections in November. Nevertheless, the general opinion of Biden’s management of the economy and inflation is still negative.
Biden’s most recent rating, which increased nine percentage points from his lowest rating of 36% in July, was fueled mainly by rekindled Democratic Party support. According to Axios, 78% of Democrats in the survey approved of his performance, followed by 36% of independents and 10% of Republicans. Twenty-nine percent of Americans say the national economy is good, up from 20% in June, while 71% say it is poor, down from 79% in June, according to the poll.
A majority of Americans—about 55%—approved of his handling of the COVID-19 epidemic, 49% endorsed his handling of the climate change issue, and 40% approved of his handling of abortion policy in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
However, 38% of people disapproved of how he handled the economy, up 10% from the low in June. According to Axios, Biden’s current approval rating is comparable to that of former President Obama in 2010. The poll surveyed 1,054 adults between Sept. 9 and Sept. 12, and it has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
