The late actor Lee Sun-kyun’s case has taken an unexpected turn with the revelation of a suspected chronic extortionist. This discovery adds to the sadness surrounding the outstanding actor’s untimely demise by deepening the present story. A twenty-something woman is accused of engaging in similar behavior with other males. She is accused of extorting 50 million KRW (approximately 38,624 USD) from the late Lee Sun-kyun.
According to a K-media investigation by Kukmin Ilbo, who was rated a “A” by the media, she allegedly duped numerous males she met on a dating app by making up stories about being pregnant or having a medical issue in order to collect money.
‘A’ used threats and false claims of parenthood to deceive people into transferring money ranging from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars. In addition, a second woman, Kim Nam-hee, extorted 350 million KRW ($269,231) from Lee Sun-kyun and then vanished. According to media accounts, Kim Nam-hee and ‘A’ shared a room.
A woman who extorted money under false pretenses from late star Lee Sun-kyun has blackmailed several people
Despite this, one dubious individual underwent a paternity test, which proved the assertions false. After being accused of extortion and blackmail, the 28-year-old ‘A’ evaded court appearances, prompting the Incheon Police Agency’s Metropolitan Investigation Unit to acquire an arrest warrant.
Notably, ‘A’ is also linked to publicizing Lee Sun-kyun’s private life and scaring him with force due of his association with celebrity Kim. A woman in her twenties blackmailed the Parasite actor, who committed herself while being probed for drug charges.
@KidNqv, an online X account, posted a report on the accused lady, including with screenshots of her conversations with the late actor. According to the account, the woman’s name is Ms. Park. She is a 1995 Wonju native who lived in the same apartment complex as Ms. Kim. She is a single mother who threatened extortion by pretending as a hacker.
Park allegedly blackmailed Kim Nam-hee for 350 million KRW ($269,231) while disguised, which the latter extorted from Lee Sun-kyun before fleeing the scene. Park resorted to contacting Lee Sun-kyun directly in order to blackmail him into paying her 50 million KRW or she would publicly publish his conversations with Kim Nam-hee.
Ms. Park threatened Lee via Kakaotalk and wrote: “I’ve wasted too much time with Ms. Kim, a drug addict, and I will catch her. I’ll also take the money back. Recover the entire amount given to Ms. Kim. I’ll say there’s nothing left, 100%, that’s a lie. This afternoon, retrieve the entire amount and refresh Lee Sun-kyun’s phone and cloud. Exit the KakaoTalk app. If everything goes smoothly, I won’t contact you anymore, and it will be concluded.”
Park then continued with her blackmail and told Lee Sun-kyun: “If there is additional harm from Ms. Kim’s call today, I will release the original recording from Ms. Kim’s phone. I’ve also identified the number through a week of surveillance. In the 16-minute recording, there’s drug use and erosion of character. Make a wise decision and respond.”
On December 29, 2023, South Korean media site Kukmin Ilbo reported that Park also threatened people, claiming to be pregnant in order to compel them to pay child support.
“You are the father of this child, and you must provide child support. If you don’t provide the money, I will expose this information publicly.” (as reported by Allkpop)
Several people she trusted gave her money under the guise of paying child support. This swindle is believed to have cost at least five men thousands to tens of millions of Korean won (about $2,000 to $5,000). A man who questioned the woman’s credibility had his paternity tested, and it was discovered that he was not the father. At this point, the victims are debating whether to report the woman for criminal activities.
On December 27, 2023, official sources stated that the 28-year-old lady known as ‘A’ (Park) was wanted by the Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency on suspicion of blackmail and extortion.
The day before, on December 27, 2023, at her planned court appearance at the Incheon District Court, ‘A’ (Park), who was already on a pre-arrest warrant, did not appear and did not provide an explanation for her absence.
Following Lee Sun-kyun’s sudden death, his wife Jeon Hye-jin and children were left with a mountain of debt, public humiliation, and regret
As a result of his extramarital affair, Lee Sun-kyun, his wife, and their two children have become the focus of public attention. Despite his celebrity, Lee Sun-kyun was not as affluent as other celebrities, and his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, managed the family finances.
In the end, the late star borrowed 350 million KRW ($269,231) from close friends and relatives. Neither Jeon Hye-jin nor his coworkers were aware of the situation until it became public. As a result of Lee Sun-kyun’s substance abuse allegations in October 2023, brands and business agreements were dropped.
Lee and actress Jeon Hye-jin had a wonderful relationship and raised two boys together since 2009. However, after failing the narcotics tests three times, he resigned from a play in October 2023 owing to controversies around rumors of alleged drug use.
Lee Sun-kyun’s punishment for film and advertising contract termination owing to his alleged drug case was believed to be over 10 billion KRW ($7.7 million USD), as stated in his suicide note. Jeon Hye-jin had to sell their Nonhyeon, Gangnam house for 15 billion KRW ($11.6 million USD) to mitigate the effects for her spouse. Lee Sun-kyun’s death had clearly left his widow with bills in addition to emotional anguish.
The discovery of Lee’s body inside a parked vehicle at Waryong Park on December 27, 2023, marked the apex of the disaster. On December 28, Jeon Hye-jin heard that the upcoming Mission Cross, in which she played a supporting role, had been canceled.
