Pavel Antov (65), a vocal opponent of President Vladimir Putin, died on December 24 after apparently falling from the third storey of a hotel. He was on vacation to celebrate his 66th birthday in the Rayagada region. On December 22, his 60-year-old acquaintance Vladimir Bidenov was discovered dead in his room. The Odisha Police is looking into both instances. Antov was one of the most ardent critics of Putin’s offensive on Ukraine. He labeled the conflict and airstrikes on Kyiv as Russian “horror” in a blog post from June. He eventually came under so much pressure that he had to recant his statement. According to Western media, he made a “groveling apologies.”
