Angelina Jolie visits Ukraine amidst the ongoing crisis

Amid Russia’s continuous attack on Ukraine, Angelina Jolie paid a visit to the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. Pictures on social media of the Hollywood star went viral. Angelina serves as UN’s special envoy and she went to a cafe in the war-torn country. She had conversations with youngsters who were suffering from injuries from the Russian missile strike on the Kramatorsk railway station.

Maya Pidhorodetska took it to Facebook to share the video of Jolie. She captioned the footage as: ”Nothing special. Just Lviv. I just went to have coffee. Just Angelina Jolie, Ukraine is simply supported by the whole world.”

She also paid a visit to a school, where she interacted with children and took photographs with them. Jolie visited a hospital outside the Vatican City that cares for children fleeing the Ukraine-Russia conflict in March. Moreover, Angelina Jolie has a long history with the UN that dates back to nearly 2 decades ago. She served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations refugee agency from 2001 to 2012.

Jolie was in favor of the people of Ukraine since February. She had said, “Like many of you, I’m praying for the people in Ukraine. My focus along with my @refugees colleagues is that everything possible is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of those displaced, and refugees in the region. We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety. It is too soon to know what will happen. But the significance of this moment for the people of Ukraine and for the international rule of law cannot be overstated.”

Lviv had escaped the conflict mostly untouched, but Russian strikes in mid-April resulted in the city’s first civilian deaths. However, after weeks of strikes in towns like Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, Lviv has become a transit point for tens of thousands of people fleeing to Poland.
