21 million Miniverse toy sets recalled due to danger of skin burn and respiratory issues

Millions of Miniverse toy sets manufactured by MGA Entertainment have been recalled due to serious risks of skin burns, eye, and respiratory irritation, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Tuesday. The recall specifically targets the “Make it Mini” sets, which contain liquid resins that pose significant dangers when touched, inhaled, or ingested.

The CPSC identified that the resins in these toy sets contain acrylates, chemical compounds prohibited in children’s products due to their harmful effects. When in liquid form, these resins can cause injuries and irritations to both young children and adults. However, once the resins cure and solidify, they no longer present a hazard.

Reported incidents and health risks

MGA Entertainment has received 26 reports of incidents involving the Miniverse toy sets from both children and adults. These reports include cases of skin burns, irritation, and respiratory issues, with one incident leading to a case of asthma.

Products affected by the recall

The recall includes all models and series of “Make It Mini Appliances,” “Make It Mini Food,” and “Make It Mini Lifestyle” sets. Most of these sets feature a sphere containing the materials needed to assemble miniature appliances, food, or lifestyle items.

An additional one million sets sold in Canada are also part of this recall. Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled Miniverse toy sets are advised to stop using them immediately and contact MGA Entertainment for a refund or replacement. The CPSC emphasizes the importance of adhering to recall instructions to prevent potential health risks. For more information and a complete list of the recalled products, consumers can visit the CPSC’s official website or contact MGA Entertainment directly.
