Rules To Keep In Mind While Traveling With Your Pets

Plan ahead. Make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel before you leave. If you have a dog, make sure it has had all of its shots

Bring along some treats or toys for your pet to keep him or her occupied during long car rides or flights.

Always travel with an airline-approved carrier for transporting your pet, even if they're small pets like hamsters or gerbils (fancy carriers are available).

Make sure it's legal to do so in your area. If you're not sure whether or not it's legal in your area

If possible, bring along a muzzle/teeth guard so that your pet doesn't accidentally bite on something while being transported in the car or checked into an airport terminal

If your pet is young and small, bring a carrier that can be tucked under the seat in front of you. The airline will not generally allow you to carry your pet in the cabin unless it is crated

Bring medications and food appropriate for your pet's condition in case of an emergency landing or delay on the tarmac (see below).

If possible, travel with an ID tag or microchip your pet so that you can easily locate them if they go missing during travel or if they become lost while on vacation or a business trip away from home

Make sure that your pet has been microchipped and registered with a national identification program.

Always keep in mind that there are laws against taking animals on planes without proper documentation or proof of vaccination.
