Common postpartum conditions new mothers should know about

Vaginal discharge

Lochia is a vaginal discharge that will lighten to pink and pale white/yellow after delivery and return within a few months.

Uterine shrinkage

The uterus shrinks one finger-width each day after delivery, and it usually takes six weeks for it to return to its pre-pregnancy size.

Perineum pain

The perineum can become swollen or torn during birth, leading to discomfort and pain for up to three weeks.

Blood glucose swings

Check blood glucose levels regularly and follow doctor's instructions to control them, as gestational diabetes often goes away.
