However, by all means, an India-Pakistan semi-final clash is a possiblity and here we examine three situations that can give rise to that.

Firstly, Pakistan faces England on November 11 in Kolkata after New Zealand plays their ninth match of the tournament gaianst Sri Lanka on November 9

That, along with South Africa potentially beating the Afghans in Ahmedabad will create a clear pathway for Pakistan to make it to the semis.

In case Afghanistan wins either of their remaining two games, they could be level on 10 points with Pakistan and then the net run rate (NRR) for both teams will come into equation.

Rain in the Pakistan vs England game along with a Kiwi victory against Sri Lanka will mean that the Black Caps will seal a semi-final date with India.

As per the third situation, it is assumed that Afghans will lose both their games with the Kiwis and Pakistan winning against Sri Lanka and England respectively.

In that situation, the qualification will be entirely dependent on the NRR, with New Zealand (+0.398) pipping past Pakistan (+0.036) that way presently.
