The Tesla bot is coming soon. Tesla is developing a 5’8″ tall humanoid robot and the prototype will be released next year. Here’s the full story of what this robot can do.
What is the Tesla bot?
Released during Thursday’s inaugural AI day, the robot comes with great expectations. It is a non-automotive robot that uses AI and, is based on the company’s neural networks and the Dojo advanced supercomputer. Hence, it enables the humanoid to navigate and understand the world. ” It is intended to be friendly and navigate through a world built for humans,” said Elon Musk. “Basically, if you think about what we’re doing right now with cars, Tesla is arguably the world’s biggest robotics company because our cars are like semi-sentient robots on wheels,” he added.
The robot will weigh 125 pounds and can walk with a gait of 5 miles per hour. Additionally, the Tesla bot’s face will house a screen that displays important things. “We’re setting it such that it is at a mechanical level, a physical level, that you can run away from it. And most likely overpower it,” he added. After all, Musk is one of the few who has warned people about the dangers of AI.
What are Elon Musk’s plans with the Tesla bot?
According to Musk, this robot can be used to take over most of the ‘boring’ human tasks. Not, just in terms of labor but also for everyday chores like cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. He also talked about a distant future where physical work is a choice. “In the long term, I do think there needs to be universal basic income. But not right now because the robot doesn’t work,” added the billionaire. Moreover, he finished his talk by inviting engineers and researchers to join the Tesla team in making this a reality.
After all, Tesla is not the only automaker that is producing a humanoid robot. Toyota, GM, and Honda have their robots. The Asimo robot developed by Honda is highly advanced and doing great things.
