The iPhone 14 was unveiled at Wednesday’s Apple event but that was just the beginning. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch SE, and AirPods Pro 2nd generation all made an appearance. It was a lot. All will be available for preorder over the next few weeks, and some ship as soon as Sept. 16.
Here are some highlights from the event:
Apple Watch Series 8
Apple CEO Tim Cook kicked off the launch event with Apple Watch news. It’s called Series 8. The watch is more durable and comes with a Crash Detection feature that can detect if you were in a severe car crash, automatically connecting you with emergency services. The Crash Detection feature will share your location and notify your emergency contacts as well.
Apple Watch SE
Apple is also announced a redesigned Apple Watch SE. This entry-priced Watch gets bigger, faster, and improved pairing for kids without iPhones, and the back case now matches the finishes. It’s made of many recycled materials. It also has the same sensors as Series 8 to enable crash detection.
Apple Watch Ultra
As expected, Apple Watch Ultra is a high-end watch with a new design, bigger screen, and titanium case. The device is aimed at professional athletes and runners. It will hit retail shelves on September 23. “Extreme” is the watchword for this model. It’s the most rugged yet, made of titanium, with a bezel to protect the display from impact.
AirPods Pro 2
Apple also launched the second-generation AirPods Pro. The new AirPods Pro wireless earbuds feature an updated processing chip for better sound quality. Use these headphones for up to six hours in the earbuds, plus 30 hours of charging in the case, and the case is easier to find thanks to a louder speaker.
Apple iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
Apple is adding two new entry-level iPhone 14 models this year. There’s an iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the Plus has a 6.7-inch screen. Both models have a super retina custom OLED display. They inherit the battery life of the Max. They come in five colors: midnight, starlight, light blue, purple, and red.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro are Apple’s new high-end models. The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the bigger model with a 6.7-inch screen. The new camera notch on the pro expands and contracts to accommodate notifications and information, which you can interact with, called the “Dynamic Island.” They come in space black and deep purple, in addition to traditional silver and gold.
