A major change for Amazon

Jeff Bezos, the founder and former CEO of Amazon is set to step down as the company’s CEO. He has been the company’s CEO since its founding on July 5, 1997. He is set out to expand Blue origin, his private space exploration firm. Jassy was installed as the e-commerce giant’s second chief executive officer on Monday. The official handing taking over took place on July 5, 2021, on the company’s official founding day and 27th anniversary.

Who is Andy Jassy and what has he been up to so far?

Andy Jassy, joined Amazon in 1997, three years after it was founded, after this MBA from Harvard Business school. He is the head of Amazon Web Services (AWS). According to reports, Jassy has made a name for himself in the tech world in the last decade. He is instrumental in revamping how companies buy technology. How? Well, he simplified computing services into firms’ component pieces and offered them for rent over the internet. Jassy’s ideas were initially dismissed by software companies like Oracle. However, its application in AWS’s strategy made everyone rethink and emulate it.

The 53-year-old is set to succeed Bezos as the Amazon CEO from July 5 onwards. According to reports, Jassy also worked as Bezos’ technical assistant and was instrumental in making the company more than just an online book store.

“Andy is well known inside the company and has been at Amazon almost as long as I have. He will be an outstanding leader, and he has my full confidence. Right now I see Amazon at its most inventive ever, making it an optimal time for this transition,” said Bezos in 2020 when he first announced his resignation.
