WhatsApp will soon block screenshots for ‘View Once’ photos and videos

WhatsApp will soon block screenshots for 'View Once' photos and videos

In order to make its “View Once” sharing option safer, WhatsApp is incorporating features that prevent the recipient from taking screenshots or recording videos. Last year, a feature was introduced that allows users to send pictures and movies that vanish from the recipient’s inbox once they have viewed the media assets. People might still maintain records of the files, though.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s iOS beta code 22.21.0.71 will prevent the recipient from recording any form of a copy of the images and other media files. The platform has been working to increase user privacy and make the network safer.

Importance of blocking users from taking screenshots

It is important to prevent users from taking screenshots of view-once messages; otherwise, the feature’s main point is compromised. When this new feature will be available to WhatsApp users, anyone attempting to screenshot or record media marked as “View Once” will receive a notification that says “Screenshot Blocked” or “Screen Recording Blocked.”

The goal of the change is to make sure that, as intended by the functionality, anything provided through View Once is only accessible to the receiver once.

View Users can send photographs and videos they want to share but don’t want the recipient to keep a copy using a function that was just implemented. People discovered a flaw, though, and they started snapping screenshots and making recordings of the delivered media.

Evidently, many users weren’t satisfied with it, and they had been requesting WhatsApp to take some action. The most recent update will address this issue and enable sharing of content without worrying about it being saved by the recipient.

Users have expressed serious concerns about security and privacy, and the company has been working to address these issues.
