WhatsApp view once media: Messages will be deleted if you do not see them within 14 days

WhatsApp View Once media

For quite some time, WhatsApp has been working on its View Once feature. According to rumors, the Facebook-owned messaging app has begun spreading out this functionality to its Android test users. If you’re a beta tester, you’ll be able to receive this functionality by installing WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.21.14.3 on your Android device. If you don’t access it right away, your WhatsApp view once media will remain in the app for 14 days.

WhatsApp was recently testing the WhatsApp view once feature. It automatically deletes messages once read. If you do not view the view once media right away, it will remain in your chatbox for 14 days. Regardless of whether you have opened the message or not, it will be deleted after 14 days. In addition, the report reveals that Whatsapp will send alerts about the same.

WhatsApp will send alerts to users about their view once media if they don’t open the video or picture within 14 days. “Some weeks ago WhatsApp rolled out the possibility to send images and video set as view once: they disappear from the chat after being opened. Due to privacy reasons, images and videos sent using view once expire after 14 days if you don’t open them within that amount of time. Today WhatsApp is making it clearer, introducing an alert.”

More about the WhatsApp view once media

WhatsApp’s View Once is a feature, which has been in development for a while. It allows users to share images that can only be opened once. Only until the message is opened will it stay on the app. When you open the mail, it is instantly erased.

“Photo expired. This photo has expired, please ask (sender’s name) to resend it”. This is the in-app warning that users will notice if they touch on a photo that has expired already. The app will give an alike message in the case of videos shared using this method.

You cannot directly save the message or the image. But you may snap a screenshot of it as soon as you open it. WhatsApp is yet to test the screenshot detection feature. This implies that users won’t be able to take a screenshot of the photo or message you’ve sent. According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp has not yet implemented the screenshot detection feature to “protect users.”

“WhatsApp wants to be sure that you correctly use the feature, avoiding any bad situation, but let’s better see what’s the real issue. Unfortunately, there are several ways to bypass screenshot detection, in particular on WhatsApp for Android: there are several apps that are able to cheat the operating system, so they can silently take screenshots or video recordings without sending any notification,” the Wabetainfo read.
