Cognition, a US-based start-up has launched the world’s first AI software engineer. Devin, the AI software engineer at Cognition is capable of writing, debugging, and deploying code to produce working videos and web pages.
Similar to Copilot, a software development assistant created by GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI, Devin is a software development assistant of the next generation.

This AI software engineer can create a working website or software application with just one instruction.
Devin is also capable of finding and fixing bugs, which cuts down on the time and effort needed for troubleshooting.
Devin can take on and complete a whole software project by itself, as opposed to just providing coding recommendations and automating certain tasks.
It can function independently because it has its own code editor, command line, and browser.
Scott Wu, CEO of Cognition, gave a video demonstration of Kevin’s workflow. Devin displays all of the tasks it completes while working, and as it tests the code being written, it automatically identifies and fixes bugs.
“Teaching AI to be a programmer is a very deep algorithmic problem that requires the system to make complex decisions and look a few steps into the future to decide what route it should pick,” Scott Wu told Bloomberg.
“It’s almost like this game that we’ve all been playing in our minds for years, and now there’s this chance to code it into an AI system,” he said.
