Twitter has announced that it will not permit advertisers which deny the scientific consensus on climate change to advertise on its platform, mirroring a Google policy. There was no evidence that the move would have an impact on what users post on social networking sites. However, Twitter-like Facebook has been targeted for promoting false climate change claims.
“Ads shouldn’t detract from important conversations about the climate crisis,” the company said. Twitter said it would share additional details in the coming months. The details will focus on how it plans to provide “reliable, authoritative context to the climate conversations” its users are having. These include conversations from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
