Truth Social, Donald Trump’s new social media platform, will be accessible on Apple’s app store starting today. Thereby, marking the former president’s return to social media on Presidents Day in the United States. Trump said in October of last year that he was developing a social media network called “Truth Social”. The app is owned by the newly formed Trump Media & Technology Group.
Late Friday, a verified account for the network’s chief product officer, Billy B., answered concerns about the app. Speaking about launch he said, “We’re currently set for release in the Apple App store for Monday, Feb. 21.”
Trump’s eldest son, Donald Jr., released a screenshot of his father’s verified @realDonaldTrump Truth Social account on Twitter on Feb. 15 with one message, or “truth,” that he uploaded on Feb. 14: “Get Ready! Your favorite President will see you soon!”
Can’t edit ‘truth’ yet
The launch would reestablish Trump’s social media presence. It’s been more than a year since he was barred from social media following his supporters’ January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, after he was accused of posting comments inciting violence. Trump Media & Technology Group, led by Nunes, will join an expanding portfolio of technology companies that are presenting themselves as champions of free expression.
“This week we will begin to roll out on the Apple App Store. That’s going to be awesome because we’re going to get so many more people that are going to be on the platform,” Nunes said. “Our goal is, I think we’re going to hit it, I think by the end of March we’re going to be fully operational at least within the United States,” he added.
Other comments from Friday’s question-and-answer session suggested that the startup’s features will be similar to those of Twitter. When asked if users would be able to edit their “truths,” the CEO said, “Not yet”. Twitter users have long desired the opportunity to edit their Tweets after posting.
The social media application will soon release the direct messaging feature on their app. Moreover, the company is also thinking about allowing consumers to sign up to receive notifications when other people post something. Two of Donald Trump’s most prominent potential social media rivals have indicated they had spoken with him.
The CEOs of Parler and Gettr claimed they had maintained contact with Trump. They also believe there is enough market space for all three platforms.
