As competition between the major social media platforms intensifies, Chinese-owned video streaming app TikTok says it will now allow text-only postings. According to the platform, the new function allows users “another way to express themselves”. TikTok debuted a brand-new music streaming service earlier this month to compete with services like Spotify and Apple Music. Additionally, Elon Musk’s Twitter changed its iconic blue bird logo to a black and white X on Monday. Users using the TikTok app will now have a choice between posting photographs, videos, or text. Additionally, they will be able to edit posts by adding sound, location, or Duets—video reactions to other TikTok users’ posts. “These features make it so your text posts are just as dynamic and interactive as any video or photo post,” TikTok said.
TikTok Music, a new music streaming service, was introduced in Brazil and Indonesia
Recently, TikTok Music, a new music streaming service, was introduced in Brazil and Indonesia. TikTok is owned by China’s ByteDance. The business also launched a beta version of the service last week in Singapore, Mexico, and Australia. According to a spokeswoman, users would be able to “share their favorite tracks and artists with their TikTok community as well as listen to, share, and download the music they have discovered on TikTok.” With a small number of users worldwide, the app is currently testing new features, such as a landscape mode. In 2021, the app surpassed Google, the dominant US search engine, as the most visited website on the planet.
The app claimed to have more than a billion active users worldwide in that same year. Rival social media companies, including Instagram owner Meta and Elon Musk’s relaunched Twitter site X, have been more competitive recently. In 100 nations, including the UK, the new Threads platform from Meta went live this month on Apple and Android app stores. Later, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed that the Threads platform had attracted more than 100 million users in just five days. A white X on a black background was used as the new Twitter logo this week, taking the blue bird’s place. According to Mr Musk, the term “tweets” will likewise be altered to “x’s”.
