Tesla files for trademarks to get into restaurant business

Tesla recently filed for a trademark to brand itself under restaurant services. It looks like the company is gearing up to start on another of Musk’s ideas from 2017. In other words, Tesla restaurants might be a thing soon enough.

Will there be Tesla restaurants?

That was exactly what we thought. Because, Tesla in 2017 said that they might move to the food business, at the FSTEC restaurant technology convention. They had ideas floating about turning EV charging units into full-service convenience stores. “Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA,” tweeted Elon Musk.

In subsequent tweets, Musk talked about outdoor screens to play movie highlights and touchscreen-based ordering menu, etc. Tesla even leased out a space in Santa Monica. It isn’t a novel idea but, adding the EV charging units to diners can be a game-changer. With movies and other entertainment, these diners could bring back a golden era and nostalgia.

Likewise, the company did not give any more information. Neither did they confirm if other restaurants would be able to open EV charging stations with the iconic ‘T’ logo. The speculation on team-ups still stands since tesla does not have experience or holdings in the restaurant, food, and beverage industries.

As a result, the firm applied for three trademarks that will cover them for restaurant services, self-service restaurants, take out and pop-up restaurant services. They applied for a trademark on May 27, 2021, and it will undergo review by the end of August.
