Japan unveils world’s first 6G device capable of achieving 100 gbps speed

Japan has introduced the world’s first 6G device, heralding a new era in telecommunications with its capability to surpass 5G speeds significantly. Various experts agree that the 6G network will greatly enhance global connectivity and accelerate the expansion of IoT applications. This groundbreaking 6G device, a joint effort by a consortium of Japanese firms, boasts data transmission speeds of 100 gigabytes, providing a performance that is 20 times superior to that of existing 5G technologies.

According to a report, this technological milestone was achieved through the cooperation of top Japanese telecommunications companies. The telecom companies of Japan that helped develop the prototype of the advanced 6G device included DOCOMO, NTT Corporation, NEC Corporation and Fujitsu. The testing of Japan’s 6G device was reportedly completed on April 11 and showed a significant milestone in developing the 6G technology.

Compared to 5G, which typically delivers speeds of 10 gbps (translating roughly to 200 to 400 mbps in practical scenarios), the 6G prototype from Japan marks a substantial enhancement in internet speeds. Tested indoors on a 100 GHz band, the device reached speeds of 100 gbps, and it maintained high performance outdoors on a 300 GHz band. By employing these advanced frequency bands, the prototype surpasses existing speed limitations and improves data transmission.

Although still in the developmental stages, 6G technology promises even greater commercial viability in the future. Continued research is expected to refine and expedite the technology, potentially leading to innovations such as “real-time holographic communication” and enhancing virtual interactions.

However, the path to widespread 6G adoption is not without challenges. The report indicates that the high-speed network suffers from limited coverage due to its “lower penetration range” and is susceptible to environmental interferences like walls and weather conditions, which could diminish its effectiveness.
