iPhone users can soon use Face ID to unlock their phones while they are wearing masks. Here’s all about the upcoming Apple update.

New Face ID update: Unlock phones while wearing a mask

Apple launched a new developer beta for iOS 15.4 for testing the upcoming iPhone features. Among them, the most intriguing is the ability to unlock iPhones using Face ID while wearing masks. Right now, the only way to unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask needs you to have an Apple Watch. The iPhone has an option for unlocking using the Apple Watch that users can glance at the screen and unlock. With the new update, Face ID works while wearing masks even for users who don’t own an Apple watch.

According to it, “iPhone can recognize the unique features around the eye area to authenticate”. However, the Face ID unlocking will be more secure and accurate when not set to work with a mask. According to reports, the new update will only work on iPhone 12 and 13 series. Additionally, it is not compatible with the 2018 iPad Pro. However, it is unclear why the company is limiting the feature to users of iPhone 12 and above. But, it might be due to differences in the software. It is also possible that this feature will be a part of future beta upgrades to the older iPhones.

What other features does Apple have in store?

Other new updates in the developer beta include a new range of emojis. Users can also copy text from objects using the iPhone camera, into Notes or Reminders. Additionally, Apple also released a beta for macOS Monetary. The app introduces a Universal control feature. This new feature will allow Mac users to seamlessly use a mouse and keyboard between iPad and the Mac.
