Google Meet: Time limit on free calls
Until now, Google Meet users enjoyed free unlimited group calls. However, Google has now enforced a time limit of 60 minutes for the free version. Although, last year, the internet search giant stressed that there will be no time limits until September 2020. But, to compete with Skype, Zoom and, other video conferencing applications, Google Meet stayed free and unlimited until June 2021. Unfortunately, the offer has reached its course.
What are the new time limits?
“All calls with 3 or more participants will be limited to 60 minutes. At 55 minutes, everyone gets a notification that the call is about to end. To extend the call, the host can upgrade their Google account. Otherwise, the call will end at 60 minutes,” stated Google. However, the firm assured that one-on-one calls are free and will not end automatically after 60 minutes. According to the company, they can continue for 24 hours and, this applied to all types of google accounts.
All about upgrading your Google account
Upgrading your existing Google account will allow you to have group video calls for as long as 24 hours. Additionally, you can extend your meeting size to 150 instead of 100. It also allows you to dial in from your phone, record and save meetings to your google drive, has polls and Q&As, etc. What’s more? Google Meet’s workspace essentials tier also has hand rise, breakout rooms, attendance reports, and more. For just under $8 per month, the upgrade is worth it when compared with its competitors.
