What will Facebook smart glasses be like?

Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the new smartglasses will retain the iconic Ray-ban form. Additionally, he added that they will let the user “do some pretty neat things.” However, he did not elaborate on those ‘neat’ features. But, they are sure to reduce the user’s dependence on their smartphones. The glasses will surely need extraordinary computing technology. The news was revealed during Facebook’s quarterly investor call. The timeline for the release of its new smart glasses is not released.

“I’m excited to get these into people’s hands and to continue to make progress on the journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future,” said Zuckerberg. Additionally, Zuckerberg confirmed that Oculus Quest 2, Facebook’s VR gaming headset firm is doing well. He added that most of the familiar apps were already on their social. “It fits with the company’s “original thesis here that virtual reality will be a social platform,” added the CEO.

What is Project Aria?

The Social media giant talked about Project Aria in September 2020. Project Aria is the firm’s research project on Wearable AR tech, a step towards the future. Back then, it had all claimed that the firm wanted to build glasses that are flexible to work for most face sizes and shapes using its software.

“Several generations of breakthroughs, like systems, to enhance audio and visual input, contextualized AI, and a lightweight frame to house it all,” said the Facebook report. The firm will need a foundational shift in its computing technology to help in the creation of AR-driven eyeglasses. Moreover, these glasses are not the only wearable AR tech that the company is trying to develop. Earlier this year, the firm also confirmed plans of making detachable cameras and smartwatches.
