A day following the decision to make likes private on his social media platform X, Elon Musk announced on Thursday that this change has led to a significant surge in the number of likes for millions of users globally.
The tech billionaire had made all likes private by default to help users avoid retaliation from trolls and to “better protect user privacy.”
In a new post on X, he stated that there has been a “massive increase in likes after they were made private.”
With this change, X users will no longer be able to see the posts that others have liked on the platform.
However, users can still view the posts they liked, and the original author of the post can see who liked it.
According to the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, this move is crucial to allow people to like posts without the fear of being attacked for doing so.
According to the social media platform, ‘likes’ are now visible only to the user and the author.
“The author will be notified, but not anyone else. Bookmark is only visible to you. We could even make it customizable for users,” according to the company.
