A mysterious cube-like object was spotted on the Moon. Currently, China’s Yutu-2 rover is investigating it. Once it gets close to the unknown object, a clear picture might answer the question.
Yutu-2: Exploring unidentified object on the moon
China’s Yutu-2 rover has been exploring the moon’s far side since 2019. However, the rover was recently sent further into the northern horizon to investigate a mysterious cube-shaped object found on the moon. Andrew Jones, a journalist covering China’s space program shared updates on Twitter. Jones first tweeted that Yutu-2 captured an image of a cube-shaped object on the northern horizon of the Moon. The object was about 80m away from the rover, in the Avon Kármán crater.
He tweeted, that the object seen appears grainy but is not an obelisk or connected to aliens. “So yeah, it’s not an obelisk or aliens, but certainly something to check out. And hard to discern much from the image. But large boulders (right) are sometimes excavated by impacts, as seen by the Chang’e-3 mission, which launched 8 years ago on Dec 1,” he explained.
More on the investigation
Jones also shared an image from the drive diary, explaining how the drive team remotely navigated the rover amidst the craters. Reports say that researchers are stoked by the appearance of the cubic object on the moon. While the object appears to be just 80 meters away from the rover, navigating to the location is not an easy task. But, once the rover gets closer, it can send better pictures to help researchers in identifying the object.
Several experts believe it is the surface of the moon. After all, the satellite’s surface is marked with impact craters. However, this is not the first strange or mysterious object identified by Yutu-2. In the early days of exploration, the rover discovered a ‘gel-like substance inside an impact crater. However, it turned out to be a rock
