Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at a substantial possibility of incorporating generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Apple goods. Apple has been perceived as trailing in the AI competition since competitors Google and Samsung have already included some Gen AI technologies in their new smartphone models. Cook discussed Apple’s ongoing AI research during the quarterly earnings call on Thursday. He stated that generative AI software features are being developed at Apple and will be available to customers “later this year”. “As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year,” Cook said in his remark, as reported by The Verge.
Apple will position iOS 18 as one of its most significant updates, incorporating AI capabilities throughout the system
Though he did not divulge more about the company’s plans for what would be modified or how it would be announced, one thing is certain: Apple appears to be catching up with the AI trend. He emphasized his enthusiasm for the unveiling, describing it as a “huge opportunity for Apple with generative AI and AI, without getting into many more details or getting ahead of myself.” According to sources, Apple will position iOS 18 as one of its most significant updates, incorporating AI capabilities throughout the system. References in iOS 17.4 code suggested Apple was testing its big language model, dubbed Ajax, alongside other technologies such as ChatGPT.
According to industry predictions, Apple will strive to significantly improve Siri, the company’s voice assistant, with Siri 2.0. It will use generative AI large language models (LLMs) to improve Siri. The company also intends to integrate AI functions throughout the iPhone operating system, including smart replies in Messages, playlist recommendations in Apple Music, and more. There is a possibility that Apple may unveil its AI products at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Though Cook didn’t mention WWDC explicitly, his “later this year “aligns with the conference’s date.
Generative AI, often known as Gen AI, is a type of artificial intelligence system that generates original content, typically in the form of writing, images, music, or other media, rather than directly copying existing instances. Gen AI models are trained on big datasets and learn to recognize patterns and structures in the data in order to generate new material that is similar to what they were trained on.
