Apple launched its self-service repair program for iPhone. Read to know more on how you can get started.

What is Apple’s self-service repair program?

On Thursday, Apple launched a self-service repair program for its iPhone. Announced last year, the program will allow users with iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and the 3rd generation iPhone SE to conduct certain repairs at home in the US. The company is planning to introduce the same in Europe before the end of this year. According to Apple, genuine repair manuals, parts and tools are going to be available in its new self-service repair store. Through this store, customers can access more than 200 individual tools and parts. Initially, only things required for the iPhone12, iPhone13, and the 3rd generation iPhone SE will be available. The firm is planning to expand to Macs later on.

Here’s how you can use the program

To conduct repairs on your device, you will first have to review the repair manual available on the website. Additionally, you need to review details on the specific repair on Apple support. After this, you can easily order the parts and tools required from the self-service repair store. According to Apple, all tools and parts offered in the store will have undergone “extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety, and reliability”.

Additionally, Apple will be providing a $49 kit that includes all essential tools needed for repair. The rental kit will be available for a week. This rental option offers flexibility to those who do not want to purchase tools for a single repair. The program is part of the company’s efforts toward expanding access to repairs. Over the last three years, the tech giant has been working towards expanding its repair network. Currently, over 3,000 independent repair providers are present worldwide. Additionally, there are over 5,000 authorized service providers. However, the company is also cautioning users that a “vast majority” should visit a professional repair provider, like an Apple store. This way they can ensure that their device is safe and reliable for use.
