On Monday, Apple Inc. revealed a polishing cloth with its characteristic logo debossed in one corner, priced at $19.
The nonabrasive accessory, which is compatible with iPhones as old as the iPhone 6 and Macs as old as 2012, is already in short supply and will take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. Premium microfiber towels go for $1.50 each on Amazon.com, placing the new Apple Polishing Cloth in contention for the company’s highest-margin physical product.
With its goods and accessories, Apple has a history of pushing price boundaries. The iPhone was the first smartphone to surpass $1,000 in price, and its popularity has only expanded since then, dragging the rest of the mobile industry along with it. Apple released a new Mac Pro in 2019 with a top configuration option that costs more than $50,000. The Pro Display XDR monitor, which comes with it, costs $4,999 without a stand. Apple charges an additional $999 for the Pro Stand.
The new MacBook Pro 16-inch model comes with an M1 Max processor, 8TB of storage, and plenty of memory. It will put you back more than $6,000. Such a machine, like the Polishing Cloth, could take up to 4 weeks to arrive. But unlike the cloth, the laptop has cutting-edge features and capabilities that have received excellent feedback online.
Apple’s new products are expected to be in high demand
Apple’s dizzying pricing isn’t always a good idea. It released the Apple Watch Edition in 2015, a $17,000 wearable with an 18-karat gold case. Customers, on the other hand, were hesitant to pay such a high price for technology that would shortly become obsolete.
Apple’s watches later established a mix between luxury and functionality. There are now $49 watch bands available, as well as an $849 Hermès Fauve Barénia Gourmette Double Tour version.
