Since the unveiling of iOS 17 at WWDC 2024, anticipation has been building for the release of the iPhone 16. That moment has finally arrived. At today’s Apple Event, we got a firsthand look at what Apple has developed over the past year, as well as the devices set to run the software introduced in June.
Given the significant focus on AI during the iOS 18 reveal, it was expected that the iPhone 16 will feature robust AI capabilities, much like Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launched earlier this year. How this will impact the phone’s functionality remains to be seen.
Here’s a breakdown of everything Apple has announced–
Apple Watch Series 10: Bigger, Brighter, and More Powerful
Kicking off the event, Tim Cook introduced the new Apple Watch Series 10, boasting a refined design and a larger, 30% brighter display compared to the Series 6. With a 9.7mm-thin frame, the new watch is available in Jet Black, Rose Gold, and Silver, alongside a premium Titanium finish that is 20% lighter than its aluminum counterparts.
The Apple Watch Series 10 comes equipped with the new S10 SoC, featuring a 4-core neural engine designed for AI tasks, such as fall detection and emergency services activation. Among the highlights was sleep pattern detection for identifying potential sleep apnea and an enhanced workout app with a new depth gauge for divers.
The Series 10 starts at $399 and will be available for preorder today, with shipments starting on September 20, 2024.
AirPods 4: Enhanced Audio and Hearing Protection
Apple also launched the AirPods 4, featuring a more refined and comfortable design. Powered by the new H2 SoC, the latest AirPods deliver Personalized Spatial Audio, improved noise cancellation, and adaptive sound control. With the addition of USB-C charging, Apple has officially retired the Lightning cable. The case is also equipped with a speaker for Find My integration.
The AirPods Pro 2 received a significant update, introducing Hearing Protection technology that uses AI to adjust noise levels and prevent hearing damage. Both the AirPods 4 and the refreshed AirPods Max now offer USB-C charging.
The AirPods 4 start at $129 for the regular model and $149 for the noise-cancellation version.
iPhone 16: AI-Powered Performance and Advanced Camera Features
The event’s spotlight was undoubtedly the iPhone 16, which featured new Ultramarine, Teal, and Pink colorways with Apple’s color-infused glass design. The iPhone 16 brings the new Action Button, first seen on the iPhone 15 Pro, which is now complemented by a dedicated camera button that doubles as a haptic sensor.
With a 48MP main sensor and ultrawide lens, the iPhone 16 delivers superior camera performance, including macro photography. The A18 chip powers the new AI features, allowing for faster photo searches, emoji creation, and enhanced Siri capabilities.
Apple also introduced ChatGPT integration and a new gaming system with 30% better GPU performance, along with a revamped cooling system to prevent overheating. Paired with a larger battery and improved iOS 18 management, the iPhone 16 promises longer battery life.
The iPhone 16 Pro features a larger 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max sports a 6.9-inch screen. Powered by the A18 Pro chip, these models offer additional performance for pro-level workloads and come in Black, White, Natural Titanium, and Desert colorways.
The iPhone 16 starts at $799, with the iPhone 16 Plus priced at $899. Both are available for preorder today.
Apple’s Glow Event underscored the company’s focus on AI integration, improved user experience, and cutting-edge technology, cementing its position as an industry leader.
