Apple's next big move in fitness: AI-powered coaching and emotion-tracking software

Every major tech business appears to have some sort of AI strategy, and Apple appears to be no exception. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is developing a new health coaching service that will utilize artificial intelligence to personalize the experience for each user.

Quartz, the codename for this new service, appears to be intended to keep consumers motivated. This appears to include encouraging patients to exercise, improve their eating habits, and sleep more soundly, with each program customized to the person. All of this is possible because of the power of AI and the Apple Watch. (https://emdrprofessionaltraining.com/)

Of course, this new AI coach, like most of Apple’s other offerings, will not be free. Instead, you’ll have to pay a monthly subscription fee for the privilege. Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether this will be a separate subscription or part of the existing $10-per-month Apple Fitness Plus service.

Gurman reports that the new service will be available sometime next year, with teams from the health, Siri, AI, and services working on it. He does, however, mention that it could be postponed or perhaps canceled. Developing an AI capable of personalizing a single user’s lifestyle and workout program is likely to be difficult.

But that’s not all Apple could have planned in terms of health and fitness. According to Gurman, Apple is also developing technologies for sensing emotions and regulating vision disorders such as near-sightedness.

Apple rumored to unveil emotion tracking and vision management features at WWDC 2023

According to Gurman, the first version of the emotion tracking software would allow users to report their general mood as well as answer questions concerning the data collected on them. Future versions, it appears, are intended to detect changing moods from users’ speech, words written, and other data. This is supposedly distinct from the new journaling app believed to be included in iOS 17.

Emotion and vision management capabilities are expected to appear at WWDC in June, along with an iPad-centric update of the Apple Health app in iPadOS 17. According to Gurman, this would function similarly to the standard Health app but will be designed so that users can view their health data on a much larger screen. As we get closer to the WWDC 2023 keynote event on June 5, expect to hear more about this and other Apple software features.
