In the iPhone 14 models, Apple included a crash detection feature. This feature is intended to automatically contact emergency personnel whenever an iPhone detects a collision. This Apple function is accessible on all iPhone 14 models as well as the Apple Watch. This feature detects a severe car crash using sensors such as the accelerometer and gyroscope. If the user does not respond to an alert within 20 seconds, it automatically calls.
The feature also drew a lot of criticism because it was activated at amusement parks and other non-emergency locations. Apple has published guidelines in its recent iOS 16 update to reduce such false calls. “If the call has been made, but you don’t need emergency services, don’t hang up. Wait until a responder answers, then explain that you don’t need help .” The company has also encouraged customers to inform emergency responders that assistance is not necessary in the case of an unintentional crash detection call.
Apple has also removed a sentence that read “If you don’t need to contact emergency services, tap Cancel and confirm that you don’t need emergency services.” from the support document.
According to various accounts, several customers are dissatisfied with the number of inadvertent calls they have received as well as the false emergency detection calls. When a user wears thick clothing, the feature is enabled because the user is unable to realize that an emergency call has been made from their iPhone or Apple Watch.
To address this issue, Apple dispatched four representatives to Summit County to monitor the emergency contact center. After these instances, the firm has made additional improvements to the feature.
