The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes won the 2023 Royal Rumble. In the main event of WrestleMania 39, he challenged Roman Reigns to a contest for the WWE Undisputed Championship. The path to “The Show of Shows,” however, isn’t as clear-cut and direct as most WWE fans had assumed.
In the most recent developments, Cody has hinted that there would be a different contest at the Mania than just him and Roman Reigns going head-to-head. On the other hand, given how the audience is responding to the Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns storyline, don’t be shocked if the creative imagines a dream match between the three of them for a championship or different titles at WrestleMania 39.
Sami Zayn betrayed Reigns’ confidence and quit the Bloodline
After hitting Roman Reigns with a chair from behind during the Royal Rumble’s conclusion, Sami Zayn betrayed Reigns’ confidence and quit the Bloodline. At that point, the WWE fanbase realised they were in for a thrilling few days. Sami had cut promos with both Roman and his sage Paul Heyman in the ensuing two SmackDown episodes, drawing the audience into the plot.
Sami has also challenged Roman to a championship bout at the upcoming Elimination Chamber in Sami’s hometown of Montreal. While it’s possible that the WWE doesn’t want the belts to change hands before WrestleMania, there are rumored to be some creatives who are considering Sami defeating Roman and setting up the Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Sami Zayn triple threat match for the Mania.
Cody stated he’s ready for any obstacle that comes his way as he pursues his childhood dream of winning the WWE title
Cody stated he’s ready for any obstacle that comes his way as he pursues his childhood dream of winning the WWE title at WrestleMania in an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “I really look forward to the moments when I’m in there if they happen, Sami, whether that’s just on the Road to WrestleMania, because I think it’s different than people think… Hey, who knows? Who knows what happens in Montreal? Who knows what happens at WrestleMania?” Rhodes said.
Both challengers Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn had cut promos on the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW that was worth watching a million times. Cody said to Sami, “I don’t want to see you on RAW next Monday because I’d rather see you at WrestleMania,” solely during that time.
