The third day of the WTC final saw another gripping contest with the bat and ball. New Zealand trailing India by 116 runs in the first innings. India was 146/3 at the end of Day 2 and then added just 71 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. From 146 for 3 to 217 all out. Ajinkya Rahane, the top scorer from India who added 49 runs in 117 balls and was looking very comfortable against the New Zealand quicks before getting out. Kyle Jamieson was the top performer with the ball for New Zealand who picked 5 wickets and gave away just 31 runs.

New Zealand batted brilliantly in the second half of the day, ending the day with 101 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. After an excellent opening partnership between Devon Conway & Tom Latham, where the pair added 70 runs for the first wicket, the Indian bowlers came back in the last hour to scalp out both the openers.

Ishant Sharma took his 200th Test wicket outside India

Ishant Sharma became the fourth Indian bowler to pick 200 Test wickets outside India. He achieved the feat in the final over of Day 3 by sending Devon Conway back to the pavilion, who was looking quite comfortable in the middle.

With 44 wickets, Ishant is now India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests in England surpassing Kapil Dev. Sharma needs 16 more wickets to overtake Kapil Dev and become the most successful Indian fast bowler in overseas conditions.

Kyle Jamieson became the first bowler to take five 5-wicket hauls in WTC

The World Test Championship began in August 2019 and a total of 9 teams participated in the inaugural edition of the tournament, but no bowler has taken the five  5-wicket hauls other than Kyle Jamieson.

No New Zealand bowler has taken more wickets than Jamieson in the first eight matches of his career. He has taken 44 wickets at an average of 14.14 including five 5-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul in 8 tests so far.

Jamieson also achieved the best figures by a Kiwi player in the ICC tournament finals. He took 5/31 in 22 overs picking up the wicket of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Devon Conway breaks Stewie Dempster’s 91-year-old record

Devon Conway made his Test debut vs England and scored a double century at Lord’s in the first innings. He was also the man of the series in New Zealand’s historic test win over England.

Conway is in some form with the bat. With scores of 200,23, 80, 3, 54 in the last five innings, he is the highest among all kiwi players in the first 5 men’s test innings of their careers.
