Let’s have a look at the interesting statistics that emerged after Day 3 of the WTC Final.
Ishant Sharma took his 200th Test wicket outside India
Ishant Sharma became the fourth Indian bowler to pick 200 Test wickets outside India. He achieved the feat in the final over of Day 3 by sending Devon Conway back to the pavilion, who was looking quite comfortable in the middle.
With 44 wickets, Ishant is now India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests in England surpassing Kapil Dev. Sharma needs 16 more wickets to overtake Kapil Dev and become the most successful Indian fast bowler in overseas conditions.
Kyle Jamieson became the first bowler to take five 5-wicket hauls in WTC
The World Test Championship began in August 2019 and a total of 9 teams participated in the inaugural edition of the tournament, but no bowler has taken the five 5-wicket hauls other than Kyle Jamieson.
No New Zealand bowler has taken more wickets than Jamieson in the first eight matches of his career. He has taken 44 wickets at an average of 14.14 including five 5-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul in 8 tests so far.
Jamieson also achieved the best figures by a Kiwi player in the ICC tournament finals. He took 5/31 in 22 overs picking up the wicket of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Devon Conway breaks Stewie Dempster’s 91-year-old record
Devon Conway made his Test debut vs England and scored a double century at Lord’s in the first innings. He was also the man of the series in New Zealand’s historic test win over England.
Conway is in some form with the bat. With scores of 200,23, 80, 3, 54 in the last five innings, he is the highest among all kiwi players in the first 5 men’s test innings of their careers.
