The historic announcement of the first-ever Women’s Premier League(WPL) edition was followed by the Under-19 World Cup victory. As Women in Blue prepare to take another step ahead, all eyes were on today’s historic first-ever WPL Auctions. A total of 409 players were up for grabs and auctioned off, with 246 of them being Indians. Each team can purchase a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players. As a result, 90 vacancies might potentially be filled. Teams can sign a maximum of six foreign players, plus an associate member. A total of 24 players have registered themselves at the maximum base price of 50 lahks, including 10 Indians. Each team would be given a maximum budget of 12 crore. Indian cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have chipped in to express their solidarity with the notion that this could be the turning moment that Women’s cricket has long awaited.
