Pakistan cricket team last toured India nearly 10 years ago, in 2012. The Ex-PCB chairman has made some revelations about the tour. Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf has claimed that it was the decision of the cricket governing body to send the wives of the Pakistan cricketers during their last tour of India in 2012 along with the players. The measure was to keep an eye on Pakistan cricketers in order to avert any potential complications during the December-January series.
“During my time when our team went on a tour to India, I advised that all the wives of the players will accompany them. This decision was taken so that no controversy could be created as Indian media is always on the lookout for that. The wives meant to also keep a check on the players,” Ashraf told Cricket Pakistan.
“Everyone took it in a nice manner and went to India. Everyone remained disciplined. Every time a Pakistan team had toured India, their country would always try to trap us and tarnish the image of our players and country. So that was avoided,” added the Ex-PCB chairman.
Team India did not return to play on the Pakistani soil
There were three ODIs and two T20Is during the tour. The ODI series ended with Pakistan’s victories in Chennai and Kolkata. However, the T20I series ended in a 1-1 tie. The BCCI had also stated that the Indian cricket team will play a return series. Unfortunately, this never transpired, according to Ashraf.
Ex-PCB chairman said, “They invited us for a short series, and once we went there, I met with BCCI chairman at the time N. Srinivasan. He promised that India’s participation on Pakistan soil would be granted if full proof of security was given.”
Earlier this month, current PCB president Ramiz Raja proposed a four-nation tournament incorporating India and Pakistan. However, the plan for the series received rejection by the International Cricket Council with unanimity during a recent meeting.
