The NFL has suspended Damontae Kazee for the rest of the season. The Pittsburgh Steelers has a history of infractions that have put other players in danger and resulted in penalties and fines. Kazee is done for the year after the latest incident.
NFL reporter Tom Pelissero covered the decision. Damontae Kazee has been in the spotlight far too often for these infractions for their liking, and he has been barred from the remaining weeks.
“The NFL is suspending Steelers safety Damontae Kazee without pay for the remainder of the regular season and any potential postseason games for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players.”
If the Steelers make the playoffs, which seems increasingly likely with each passing week, Kazee will be unable to play. The star safety is out for the season, however long that may be for the Steelers.
Referees have penalized Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee for egregiously illegal hits several times this season. Some of those hits have also resulted in fines. That was the only punishment up until now.
Some may consider Kazee’s most recent infraction to be the worst, but the NFL saw enough and suspended him for the below hit on Michael Pittman Jr.
Gardner Minshew threw a pass to Pittman, who had to dive toward the defensive backs to make the catch. He didn’t catch it because Kazee came flying in with a huge hit.
He angled himself towards Pittman, who had been hit in the neck area and had his body contorted unnaturally. It was flagged for a hit on a defenseless receiver and became the basis for his suspension.
The Colts would go on to score 23 unanswered points after that penalty and win, dealing a significant blow to the Steelers.
