Virat Kohli to step down from RCB captaincy after #IPL2021

“This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.”: Virat Kohli#PlayBold #WeAreChallengers pic.twitter.com/QSIdCT8QQM

“It has been a great and an inspiring journey, captaining a talented bunch of players in the RCB squad. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family, who have been instrumental in the growth of the franchise over the years,” said Kohli

“It wasn’t an easy decision but one that has been well thought of and in the best interest of this wonderful franchise. The RCB family remains close to my heart as we continue to strive to achieve excellence. As I have mentioned previously in many occasions, I will only play for RCB until my retirement from the game of cricket”, he further added.

It was inevitable once he gave up captaincy of the Indian T20 team that he would give up the #RCB position too. It is part of his plan for the future. I think it is the right decision. Who knows, maybe he can sign off with what the #RCB fans want so badly! https://t.co/Tvi4Tzm4tP

Virat Kohli's captainncy record in the IPL

Virat Kohli has been associated with RCB since 2008. He is the only player who has played all the seasons of IPL with the same franchise. Kohli was appointed captain of RCB in 2011. Since then Kohli has captained the side for nine seasons but yet to win a trophy. So far, the side has won 62, lost 66, of the 132 matches under him. The best season finish under him so far has been, when RCB finished as runner-up in 2016. The franchise made the playoffs on only two other occasions under Kohli’s captaincy – 2015 and 2020. So, let’s look at few records held by Virat as a captain of RCB.
