The latest season of the Premier League commenced on August 5th. After being demoted in 1998–99, Nottingham Forest has returned to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years. It will be Burnley’s absence from the Premier League since 2015–16. Due to the World Cup, winter break will last longer than normal. Though there are things that will be new this season, there are also some records that are most likely to stay as it is. With the start of the new season, here are 6 Premier League records that are unlikely to be broken.
Premier League records that are unlikely to be broken
1. Most points in a season- Manchester City
When it comes to points per season in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola has established new benchmarks. In the 2017–18 Premier League season, Manchester City scored 100 points. The team played in 38 Premier League games, winning 32 of them, and only dropped two. Liverpool nearly reached the 100-point plateau but finished the year with 99 points.
2. Hat-trick of League titles- Manchester United
Since the Premier League’s start, Manchester United has won the most consecutive championships. They have a history of hat-tricks in winning the title, not once but twice. The team went on to win three straight championships in 1998–99, 1999–2000, and 2000–2001. Similarly, another team with big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, and others won the Premier League trophy three years in a row (2006–07, 2007–08, and 2008–09), propelled by Ronaldo’s unstoppable goal-scoring streaks.
3. 17 losses in away games in a season- Burnley
Burnley suffered defeats in 17 of its away league games during the 2009–10 Premier League season. In their two matches against Manchester City and Hull City, the Clarets only managed to draw one and win one. (Xanax) Due to their inability to accumulate more than 30 points from their 38 games, Burnley finished the season in 18th place and was demoted to the Championship.
4. Most points without title – Liverpool
The Premier League has recently been ruled by Liverpool and Manchester City. The 2018–19 season, however, was when the bitter rivalry peaked. Every week, these two clubs squared off while playing at their absolute best. The season’s final day saw the choice of the winner. Liverpool finished the season with 97 points and narrowly missed winning the title by one point at the end, whereas Manchester City finished the season with 98 points, taking home the championship.
5. Winning the title with the fewest points- Manchester United
With only 75 points, Manchester United won the Premier League in 1996–1997 (then known as the FA Carling Premiership). The idea that 75 points were all it took to win the league championship seems absurd in the present era, and the idea that this record might be surpassed in the future is completely incomprehensible. Newcastle and Arsenal, who finished second and third, respectively, with 68 points each, trailed Manchester United in the race for the trophy. The lowest total for a title-winning side in the last ten years was 80 points, achieved by Manchester United in 2010–2011.
6. 49 games unbeaten run- Arsenal
Between May 2003 and October 2004, Arsenal under Arsene Wenger won 49 straight league games without suffering a defeat. The ‘Invincibles’ season, in which the Gunners were undefeated the whole 2003–04 campaign, saw 38 of these 49 league games. They finished the tournament with a golden Premier League trophy and the title of Invincible after winning 26 games and drawing the final 12 games.
