A member of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball team tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Japan. The player has been identified as 29-year-old Taylor Crabb.
USA Volleyball confirmed in a statement that one of its members tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival.
“The health and safety of our athletes, coaches, and staff is our top priority. The organization said in a statement. We can confirm that a member of Team USA tested positive upon their arrival in Japan. In alignment with local rules and protocols, Crabb has been transferred to a hotel. Out of respect for the individual’s privacy, we cannot provide more information at this time.”
“There are protocols in place for a replacement athlete and we are pursuing that option. However nothing has been confirmed yet,” USA Volleyball added.
Taylor Crabb may become the first U.S. athlete to be ruled out of competing in the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19 in Japan. As reported by The Orange County Register, Tri Bourne is likely to be added as a replacement for Crabb.
Two members of the US women’s gymnastics alternate tested positive for COVID-19
Two members of the US women’s gymnastics alternate tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. Both of them have been placed in quarantine and are not expected to compete, as NBC reported.
Tokyo 2020 is just a day away, and already few COVID-19 cases have emerged in the camp. The official committee has already said that the games will be held under unprecedented conditions including strict quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
