T20 World Cup: Here's how Team India can still qualify for Semi-Finals

Team India’s start to the T20 World Cup has been a nightmare for the team as well as fans. After an embarrassing loss against Pakistan with 10 wickets in their first game, the team had one week’s gap before the do or die game. Last night, India played against NZ in an almost virtual knockout game. The results were, unfortunately, not in India’s favour. Here is how Team India can still qualify for the Semi-Finals.

How can India still qualify for the Semi-Finals?

After two embarrassing defeats in two games, the men in blue are still looking to get the much needed 2 points in front of their name. Well, the qualification scenario will not be easy anymore. Apart from winning all 3 upcoming games, the team will have to depend on permutations and combinations as well as the performances of the other teams to qualify.  Hence, many reckon India won’t qualify for the next stage after such a disappointing display. Irrespective of what others think, this is how it can work out well for the men in blue.

Win 3 in 3

Virat Kohli’s men have displayed poor performance and lack of intent in their last two games. Therefore, their main aim right now will be to win all the 3 upcoming games. One more loss will officially knock the team out. The game on November 3, against Afghanistan, will decide the fate of men in blue for this tournament. Looking at the batsmen struggling against spinners, it’ll be an interesting challenge.

Keep an eye on the other team’s performance

No matter how well the team does now, they will have to look out for the performance of others. Pakistan, with 3 victories in 3 games, are unofficially into the Semi-Finals. Afghanistan with 4 points is also in the race for qualification. NZ, as well as Afghanistan, are the biggest threats to Team India.

How will NZ or Afghanistan’s loss help India?

By defeating Afghanistan, India will be able to limit the Mohmmad Nabi-led team to a maximum of six points. The Men in Blue, on the other hand, will require New Zealand to lose one of their final three games. Namibia, Scotland, and Afghanistan are on the schedule for the Kiwis. With Namibia and Scotland being a small team, only Afghanistan is the one that can give a tough time to Williamson’s side.

How will the run rate help?

Assuming that India will win against Afghanistan and Afghanistan will win against New Zealand, all the 3 teams will stand at 6 points and 3 wins. The team which has the best run rate will make it to the semis.
