Shafali Verma, a veteran of two Tests, 21 ODIs, and 46 T20Is will lead a 15-member Indian squad in the first Women’s Under-19 World Cup, which is set to take place in South Africa from January 14 to January 29, the BCCI announced on Monday. Richa Ghosh, a fiery wicketkeeper-batter, has been added to the team along with Shafali. Richa’s senior career has includes 17 ODI and 25 T20I appearances.
“The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has picked India U19 Women’s squad for the upcoming bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U19 and the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup to follow, the BCCI said in a press release.
South Africa will play host to the 16-team ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Scotland are the other members of Group D. In the Super Six phase, where teams are divided into two groups of six, the top three teams from each group advance.
The top two teams from each group will then advance to the semi-final matches, which will be held on January 27 at Potchefstroom’s JB Marks Oval. On January 29, the championship game will be held there.
