Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has rejected a €160 million ($188 million) bid by Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe, the French club’s sporting director said on Wednesday.
“Kylian Mbappé wants to leave, that seems clear to me. If Real Madrid makes an offer, that seems clear. I am giving a position which, I think, is clear for everyone. We can’t, in the last week of the transfer window, change our plans. If he wants to leave, we aren’t going to keep him, but it’s under our conditions.” said Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director
Mbappe’s contract runs out at the end of the 2021-22 campaign. That indicates he could leave PSG on a free transfer next year. However, Leonardo told French media that they want to extend Mbappe’s contract, which will expire in June 2022, and made two offers to the 22-year-old youngster.
Leonardo slammed Real Madrid for their attitude and said “Real has been acting like this for two years. This is not true, even illegal, because they have contacted the player. This is unacceptable to us. What has been done is not correct.”
“Their strategy is to [make an] offer one year before the end of the contract and seven days before the transfer period expires. Real Madrid wants the offer turned down because they want to show Kylian they’ve done everything. So they want to start negotiating with him for next year,” he added
Only six days until the transfer window closes
As of now, it’s clear that PSG doesn’t want to see Mbappe walk away next summer without getting any compensation in return. Also, Real Madrid’s finances have been hit by the coronavirus pandemic. It will be entertaining to look forward, to find out whether PSG extends the contract or Real Madrid makes some tough call or there’s any twist in the story before the Transfer window closes in 6 days.
