The world No. 1, Novak Djokovic beat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals, recording the 100th grass-court win of his career and booked his place in Wimbledon semi-finals.
The win was Djokovic’s 100th on grass. In reaching this milestone, he joins the elite list group of players to have 100 wins on three different surfaces (grass, clay, hard). Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Jimmy Connors as the only players in the Open Era to have clinched at least 100 wins on each surface.
Djokovic has now 613 career wins on hard courts, 243 on clay, and 100 on grass. Djokovic is now into his 10th Wimbledon semifinal, the third-most in men’s tennis after Federer and Jimmy Connors. He also won his 19th consecutive Grand Slam match, which is the fourth-longest win streak of his major career.
Novak Djokovic in the post-match press conference, when asked about “what has it been like to be something of the ‘bad guy’ chasing after Roger and Rafa all these years?”
“I don’t consider myself a bad guy. I mean, that’s your opinion. I’m not chasing anybody, I’m making my own path and my own journey, my own history. I’m privileged to be part of history of this sport that I love. As I said on the court, I know about a lot of stats. I don’t know about all of them. But they do motivate me even more to play my best tennis at the events that count the most in our sport.”
