Novak Djokovic is getting closer to winning another Wimbledon title as the Serbian player moves forward to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2022. Novak defeated Dutch wild card Tim van Rijthoven with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. Now, he is all set to face Jannik Sinner on July 5th.
Djokovic, who is attempting to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title and seventh overall at the grasscourt major, is now unbeaten on the All England Club’s immaculate grounds since quitting due to an elbow injury incurred versus Tomas Berdych in the 2017 quarterfinals.
When the chance presented itself, Djokovic broke the Dutchman, but soon found himself under pressure to hold his own service after van Rijthoven created two breakpoint opportunities. In the seventh game, Van Rijthoven wasted one more opportunity to break Djokovic’s serve. As a result, Novak won the set with an amazing backhand down the line.

“I knew coming into the match that it was always going to be a tough, challenging matchup against Tim, who I’ve never faced before,” Djokovic said.
“I watched him play. He’s got a really good game for grass, which he proved today. It was a very good fight, especially in the first two sets. But overall I think I’ve played very well, very solid from back of the court. I got into his service rhythm, started reading his serve better in the third and fourth sets.”
Novak added, “I just really am pleased with the way I closed out the match.” “I lost the rhythm on my serve a little bit towards the end of the match. But overall just a good fight and really challenging match for me on grass.”

It ranks second all-time for Djokovic to have won 25 consecutive matches on grass courts, all of which have come at Wimbledon. With Sunday’s success, he ended a tie with Rod Laver. However, he is still behind Roger Federer’s 65 straight wins on grass, which he amassed from 2003 to 2008.
