No vaccination, no US Open participation for Novak Djokovic

After winning at Wimbledon, the Serbian Tennis great Novak Djokovic was hopeful of playing at the US Open. However, the authorities have denied him the permission to participate because of his no vaccination stand. The tournament’s organizers are committed to following COVID-19 vaccination instructions from the US government. His refusal to accept the vaccine will prevent him from competing in the final Grand Slam of the year.

The US Open does not have specific vaccination requirements. However, their statement read, “Per the Grand Slam Rule Book, all eligible players are automatically entered into the men’s and women’s singles main draw fields based on ranking 42 days before the first Monday of the event. The US Open does not have a vaccination mandate in place for players, but it will respect the US government’s position regarding travel into the country for unvaccinated non-US citizens. US immigration recently removed the requirement for all inbound travelers to submit a negative COVID-19 test before getting on a flight. However, they are still required to show proof of completion of all required vaccinations upon arrival. Djokovic had previously stated that he wasn’t vaccinated and that he doesn’t want to get it either.

August 29 marks the start of the US Open, while September 11 marks the conclusion. Djokovic previously missed The Australian Open in 2022. He was deported to his home country as a result of the COVID vaccine controversy.

Serena Williams announced her intention to compete in her home grand slam by agreeing to play the majority of the US hard-court swing, which includes events in Toronto and Cincinnati. Kyle Edmund of Great Britain will compete in his first grand slam singles match in two years.
