Travis Kelce appeared frustrated during the Kansas City Chiefs’ third straight win to start the 2024 NFL season. NBC cameras captured the All-Pro tight end sitting somberly on the bench as the Falcons held a 14-10 lead over the Chiefs before halftime. Kelce, who has been limited in the passing game throughout the Chiefs’ first two wins, managed four catches on five targets for just 30 yards in Kansas City’s 22-17 victory over the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday night.
Concerns grow as Kelce’s stats dip
Known for his energetic personality, the 34-year-old tight end was seen rubbing his eyes and staring into the distance during the game, adding to concerns over his performance. Kelce has now accumulated only eight catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns so far this season. He was overshadowed once again by second-year wideout Rashee Rice, who caught one of Patrick Mahomes’ two touchdown passes in the game.
Travis Kelce had a tough outing in Week 2 as well, recording just one catch for five yards in the Chiefs’ last-minute win over the Bengals. In Week 1, he managed three catches for 34 yards in the home opener against the Ravens. Without his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, in attendance after she had watched the first two games of the season, Kelce is now projected for a career-low 391 receiving yards this season.
Travis Kelce reflects on his slow start
Travis Kelce addressed his slow start on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, after Week 2. Reflecting on his struggles, Kelce expressed frustration with his current performance, stating, “I used to get really, really pissed off and almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success… it’s just tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that.”
