Dwayne Haskins dies after crash
The 24-year-old and former Ohio State star died early on Saturday morning. Haskins was struck by a vehicle as per the statement from Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at around 6:37 am. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was crossing traffic lanes when the crash occurred. Haskins was attempting to cross the lands westbound of I-595 and was struck by a dump truck. However, a traffic homicide investigation is going on to understand it better.
“According to a release from Florida Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Interstate 595 between I-95 north and south in Broward County around 6:37 a.m,” tweeted Nicki Jhabvala, an NFL reporter. Haskins was reported dead at the scene and the highway was shut down for several hours following the incident. He was reportedly training in South Florida with the rest of the team for the 2022 NFL season.

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins. He quickly became a part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburg and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community,” stated Mike Tomlin. Tomlin is the head coach of the Steelers. “Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabraya, and his entire family during this difficult time,” he added.
NFL players, former coaches, and teams paid tribute to the NFL star. Former Ohio State head coach called Haskins “one of the greatest” quarterbacks to play at the university. “The loss of Dwayne is beyond tragic and extremely difficult to process. For those who knew him closely, he was much more than a great football player. He had a giant heart, an old soul, and an infectious smile. The Ohio State community and our entire football program are heartbroken,” tweeted Ryan Day, the head coach at The Ohio State University.
